Michael Haddix Named MAAC Rookie of the Week

Feb. 24, 2003

Siena freshman Michael Haddix has been selected MAAC Rookie of the week for his effort in a pair of key Saints' victories this past week. Haddix averaged 14 points and eight rebounds in victories over Niagara and Rider.

Haddix's highlight performance came in Siena's come-from-behind win at Rider on Sunday afternoon before a regionally televised audience on Madison Square Garden Network. Against the Broncs, the 6-6 forward poured in 19 points and hauled down a career-high 13 rebounds. He connected on 9-of his-14 field goal attempts in 33 minutes of action. Earlier in the week, he scored nine points and had three rebounds despite being limited to just 20 minutes of action with foul trouble against Niagara.

Haddix is on pace to become the highest scoring freshman (by average) in school history. His current total of 14 points per game is seven tenths higher than Marc Brown's record total of 13.3 points per game as a rookie. Haddix also assumed the team rebounding lead this past week, upping his season average to 6.8 caroms per contest.

Haddix and the Saints close out the regular-season portion of their schedule with a pair of home games this week. Siena welcomes MAAC leader Manhattan to Pepsi Arena on Thursday evening before playing host to Saint Peter's on senior day at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
