History of the Pink Zone Game
The Siena Women's Basketball Pink Zone Game began in 1999. Former head coach Gina Castelli approached Siena College biology professor, the late Dr. Patricia Brown, who herself was battling breast cancer and was a founder and president of Capital Region Action Against Breast Cancer (CRAAB!). Castelli wanted to collaborate on a breast cancer awareness event at one of her team's home games. From Dr. Brown and CRAAB!, Coach Castelli learned about the issues surrounding the epidemic and wanted to spread that knowledge to others, especially young women.

And so the event began.

For the first 16 years, Siena partnered with CRAAB! and partnered with St. Mary's Cancer Treatment Center and Samaritan Radiation Oncology in 2016, while it has a new partner in C.R Wood Cancer Center at Glens Falls Hospital. The last two years have seen the event partner with To Life!, which provides information and support to the Capital Region community. The event has continued to evolve over the years to include more community partners, displays, raffles, education tables and spectators that have come together to show their support by wearing pink. Since it's inception, the event has raised over $200,000.
