LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Erin DeMatteo volleyed a cross from Erin Beam into the top corner four minutes into overtime to lift Siena to a 3-2 victory over LaFayette Tuesday afternoon. The win was Siena's fifth in a row after a 0-4 start.
Lafayette (7-3) dominated the first half, but led only 1-0 on a goal by Briana Rinchiuso. The Leopards outshot the Saints 11-0 before halftime, and 17-7 overall.
The Saints (5-4, 2-1 MAAC) answered in the second half with goals by Nicole Orlandella and Erin Beam. Beam finished the game with a goal and an assist.
With less than ten minutes remaining, Meghan Sweeney headed in a corner kick past Siena goalkeeper Krista Nordmark to tie the game. The freshman goalie finished with 9 saves.
Siena has won back-to-back overtime games after going winless in six overtime games last year. At 5-4, it also marks the first time in Steve Karbowski's three-year tenure at Siena that the Saints have been above .500.
The Green and Gold go for six in a row this Saturday when they host Sacred Heart at 1:00 pm.
