Vestal, N.Y. - Senior forward Merri Montenare scored late in the second half, giving Binghamton (11-4-2) a 1-0 victory over Siena (10-7) in women's soccer action today. The Bearcats are now 7-0-2 in their last nine games. The Saints will now fly south to Disney World in Orlando for the MAAC Tournament. The fourth-seeded Saints will take on fifth-seeded Manhattan in the quarterfinals. The Lady Jaspers beat Siena 3-0 earlier this season.
Montenare took a cross from junior midfielder Amanda Norman and shot the ball into the net, breaking a scoreless duel at the 74:08 mark. After holding a slim 6-5 lead in shots during the first half, Binghamton controlled the second half, outshooting Siena 11-0.
Junior goalkeeper Lauren Cherry recorded her third solo shutout of the season. Krista Nordmark made seven saves for the Saints.
