Saints Topped by Red Foxes 1-0 in Overtime

Oct. 15, 2000

Poughkeepsie, N.Y. - The Siena women's soccer team (4-9-2) was defeated today by the Marist Red Foxes (7-6-1) 1-0 in overtime in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action.

It was deja vu for these two teams as the game entered its second overtime period, reminiscent of last year's match-up between Marist and Siena. The Red Foxes were able to secure the same outcome with a victory when senior Jaimie Bierwirth netted the game winner on a throw in by Amy Martin ending the game at 114:50. Bierwirth's goal broke two school records, making her Marist's All-Time Leader in career goals (21) and total points (51). Bierwirth led the Red Foxes with six of Marist's eighteen shots on goal.

Sophomore goalkeeper Mellanie Nai registered eleven saves off of Siena's fifteen shots on goal while Siena goalkeeper Lisa Miceli (East Islip, N.Y./East Islip) posted nine saves for the Saints.

The Saints will next be in action when they host Fairfield on October 20 at 3:00 p.m.
