Riverdale, N.Y. - The Siena women's soccer team (2-3-1, 0-0-1 MAAC) earned a 2-2 tie against the Manhattan Jaspers (2-4-1, 2-0-1 MAAC) today in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action.
The Saints took an early 1-0 lead when freshman Vicki Fenley (Niskayuna, N.Y./Niskayuna) scored on an assist from teammate Erin Hutnick (Herndon, VA, Paul VI) with just under 20 minutes remaining in the first half. Fenley was also credited with the Saints' second goal of the game, when the Jaspers inadvertently scored on their own goal. Manhattan answered back late in the half on a goal by Tina Leidl to cut the Saints lead to 2-1 at the break.
In the second half, the Jaspers' Laurie Spera scored on an assist by Tina Beatty less than five minutes after intermission to the tie the game at two apiece. The two teams battled through another seventy minutes of scoreless play, including two overtime periods, before ending in the tie.
The Saints will be in action tomorrow against St. Peter's at 1:00 p.m.
