FAIRFIELD, Conn. (AP) - Mike Cerchio completed 16 of 23 passes for 253 yards and four touchdowns as Fairfield University defeated Siena College 42-13 Saturday.
The Stags scored on their first possession of the game, as Cerchio tossed a 25-yard touchdown pass to Matt Giugliano on his first attempt of the game.
Fairfield (1-2) ran the score to 14-0 following Rishawd Watson's one-yard drive with seven minutes remaining in the quarter.
The deficit grew to 28-0 just five minutes into the second quarter, as Cerchio found Sean Kraft open for a 20-yard touchdown pass. Cerchio and Giugliano hooked up one more time, this time for a 10-yard pass with 10:18 left in the first half.
Siena (0-2) cut into the deficit with its first touchdown, as Julian Brown capped a 14-play, 82-yard drive with a 14-yard run. The extra point failed, making the halftime score 28-6.
Cerchio completed his longest pass of the day late in the third quarter, a 65-yard pass and catch play by receiver Andrew Turf with 1:47 remaining.
Brown rushed for his second TD of the game, running seven yards on the final play of the seven-play drive.
Freshman Tom Campion scored his first collegiate touchdown with three minutes left in the game, breaking several tackles during a 49-yard run.
