NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. - Freshman Gianna Ferranti (Melville, N.Y./Walt Whitman) scored her first collegiate goal five minutes into overtime to lead Siena over Iona Sunday afternoon 2-1. The win was Siena's fourth in a row and evened the Saints record on the season at 4-4, including 2-1 in the MAAC.
Fellow freshman goalie Noel Cox (Uniondale, N.Y./Uniondale) made three saves while allowing one goal in the victory. Iona took the lead midway through the first half on a goal by Allison Virostko. The Saints got some help in the 55th minute when the Gaels scored an own goal to tie the game up at one.
The Saints outshot Iona 19-6. Siena finished off a weekend MAAC sweep with the win. The Green and Gold beat Fairfield Saturday 2-0.
The Saints return home for a non-conference matchup with LaFayette on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m.
