Siena Eliminated From MAAC Volleyball Tournament

Jaclyn Levi led all players with 22 kills and 19 digs to pace Rider (6-22) to a 3-2 victory over Siena (7-21) on the second day of play at the MAAC Volleyball Championships in Orlando, Fla. The loss eliminates the Saints from the Tournament.

The two teams alternated game victories, with Rider earning a 30-24 win in the first game and a 30-21 triumph in the third. The Saints took the second game 32-30 and faught off elimination several times in the fourth game to earn a 30-28 victory. Down 28-24, junior Kerry Pease served six consecutive winners to force the fifth game.

In the fifth game, Rider jumped out to an 8-4 lead, but Siena again rallied to take an 11-10 advantage. The Broncs won five of the match's final six points to earn the victory.

Senior Jennifer Corkum, playing in her final game, connected on 43% of her attacks registering 11 kills. Lauren Wewber recorded 18 kills and freshman Christa Glenn chipped in 10 in a losing effort. Libero Amanda Carrk recorded a team-high 19 defensive digs.

Siena controlled the action at the net, compiling a season-high 21 blocks. Corkum led the way with six, classmate Kerrie McHugh had five.

The Saints finish the 2002 season with a 7-21 overall record. The team entered the Tournament as the #9 seed and promptly defeated #8 Marist yesterday afternoon before falling to top seeded Manhattan last night.
