NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. (AP) - Bill Brieden threw a touchdown pass and ran for another as Iona defeated Siena 14-7 in the season opener for the Metro Atlantic teams.

Brieden completed a 30-yard pass to Robert Terry with 7:03 left in the first quarter for the Gaels and scored on a 1-yard run with 13:41 left in the second.

Brieden wound up 11-for-21 for 92 yards with one interception.

The Siena Saints avoided a shutout when Sal Jeraci scored from 2 yards out in the third quarter.

Siena's Christian Karolus was 18-of-29 for 158 yards with two interceptions.
