LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - The Siena women's soccer team (7-7-0, 3-2-0) couldn't capture the lead in a 3-1 loss to Niagara (9-2-2, 3-1-0) in rainy conditions at Siena Field this afternoon.
After trailing by two at halftime, Alicia Lackey brought the Saints to within a goal just under 13 minutes into the second half. The Purple Eagles failed to clear the ball in a high traffic situation inside the box, Lackey found a hole and blasted her team-leading sixth goal of the season into the net.
Niagara added an insurance goal in the 67th minute of action, Brittany Bisnott was the recipient of a well placed lead pass from Emily Montgomery and fired a sweeping shot from 13 yards out to give Niagara a 3-1 advantage.
The Green and Gold once again turned on the pressure and managed to rocket five shots on goal in the second half with all being stopped by Niagara's Katy Owings.
Siena held the edge in corner kicks 5-4.
Junior Kristen Turner put two of her team-high four shots on goal.
The Saints continue their season-long four-game homestand on October 9 as the MAAC schedule continues with Canisius coming to Loudonville with a 1 p.m. kickoff.
