Siena Loses To Miami 76-47

Coral Gables, Fla. - The Miami Hurricanes opened up with a 15-0 run in the first half and never looked back, as they cruised to victory over the Saints, 76-47, at the BankUnited Center in beautiful Coral Gables, Fla.

The loss drops the Saints to a 1-4 record, while the Canes improve to 5-1 overall. Miami senior forward, Tamara James led all scorers with 22 total points, while sophomore guard Albrey Grimsley established a new career high, registering 11 points in twenty minutes off the bench.

Siena was led by senior forward Whitney Cave, as she put up her third double-double of the year, with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Senior captain, Lauren Surber knocked down three 3-pointers en route to nine points.

The Canes jumped out to an early 15 point lead before Heather Stec put the Saints on the board, as she scored consecutive field goals, making the score 15-4. The Saints' hustle and hard play kept the first half close as both teams entered the locker rooms with a 25-15 lead in favor of the Hurricanes. Siena outscored Miami 15-10 after the Hurricanes game-opening run.

After the break, Miami responded and opened the second half with a 9-0 run to take command. It was a foul-ridden half, as both teams quickly went over the foul-limit. Combined, the two squads attempted 35 free throws. Miami scored 51 points over the game's final 20 minutes as they streaked to a 29 point margin of victory.

The Saints return home to open the league schedule on Friday at the Alumni Recreation Center as they host Manhattan College at 7 p.m.
