Sept. 16, 2005

Final Stats

ALBANY, NY--The Siena women's soccer team used five different goal scorers, including two by senior Alicia Lackey (Niskayuna, N.Y.), junior Erin Morine (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) and freshmen Courtney Preziosi (Garden City, N.Y.) to defeat Howard University 8-0 in the Governor's Cup hosted by UAlbany. Sophomore Chelsea Maguire (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) chipped in with three assists, tying the school's single-game record, in the victory.

Morine wasted little time, notching the first two goals of the game. Her first goal, came off a double assist from Maguire and senior Corry Silon (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) when the shot came across from the outside, giving Siena a 1-0 advantage 9:38 into the game. Two minutes later she converted a loose ball and knocked it in off a rebound at the 11:04 mark for a 2-0 Siena lead.

Sophomore Kristen Turner (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) scored two minutes after Morine second goal to give the Saints a 3-0 lead while junior Erin Flaherty (Clifton Park, N.Y.) made it 4-0 with her first collegiate goal.

Lackey added her two goals in the final minutes with one goal off a header with the assist credited to Maguire, while sophomore Katie Mulligan (Staten Island, N.Y.) contributed to her second goal five yards out the box, propelling the Saints to a comfy 6-0 lead at the break.

Freshmen Patti Carroll (Gansevoort, N.Y.) and Natalie Bennett (Sante Fe, TX) and junior Carey Winkler (Sand Lake, N.Y.) split time in the net, combining for five saves. Howard goalies, Lindsey Walton and Jessamyn Perkins tallied 11 saves in the loss.

Preziosi finished the game scoring two goals off penalty kicks.

The Saints outshot the Lady Bison, 27-to-19, in the game including 14-to-8 in the first half. The Saints had four corner kicks to Howard's three.

Siena returns to action on Sunday with a 1:00 p.m. game against Navy.
