Freshman setter April London was named Tournament MVP after amassing 52 assists and 15 kills as Siena defeated Hartford and Quinnipiac 3-0 to win the Quinnipiac Invitational Saturday in Hamden, Conn. Senior captain Liz Hubbard and classmate Christa Glenn were each named to the All Tournament Team.
In the Saints (8-6) first match of the day, sophomore Nadiege Honore led the way with 12 kills as Siena defeated Hartford 30-24, 36-34 and 30-20. London and Glenn each chipped in nine kills in just 20 attempts. Freshman libero Kathi Kobayashi led Siena's defense with 12 digs.
Teri Connolly led Hartford with nine kills. The Hawks dropped to 6-8 with the loss.
In the nightcap, Siena controlled the action from start to finish, posting 30-20, 30-20 and 30-22 victories over the host Bobcats. The Saints registered an astounding .364 attack percentage, as four players killed better than 40% of their attacks. Hubbard led the way with eight kills in just 12 attempts (.583). Honore had 12 kills and junior Christie Gustafson had nine.
Siena improved to 8-6 on the season. The Saints won just nine games all of last year. Siena returns to action at regional power Syracuse Wednesday.
