Final Stats
Sophomore Nadiege Honore and senior Liz Hubbard combined for 26 kills pacing Siena's 3-0 shutout of Colgate in a televised volleyball match on the Siena campus Tuesday night. The Saints improve to 3-3 on the season with the win, while Colgate drops to 0-5.
Siena took the first game 30-25, rallied for a 31-29 victory in the second and held on for a 30-25 triumph in the decisive third game.
The Saints were sharp from the start, connecting on better than 48% of their total attacks in the first game. Honore and Hubbard each had four kills, and Christie Gustafson and Janine Pesusich chipped in three a piece. Gustafson led the Saints with 11 digs in the match.
Colgate led for the majority of the second game, but the Saints rallied behind the strong serving of senior Christa Glenn. Down 25-23, Siena retaliated to tie the game at 27-27, and gained their first lead of the game at 29-28. Hubbard had the last two kills of the game and had terminated 10 of her initial 13 attempts by the end of the second game.
The Siena defense stepped it up a level in the third game, limiting Colgate to an attack percentage of just .122. The Saints rode their defense to a 20-15 lead, and expanded the edge to 29-23 behind the solid play of their bench. Freshman Kelly Hummell killed both her attempts in the match's closing moments to solidify the victory.
Colgate was led by Katrinia Zawojski, who finished the match with 13 kills and five digs. Siena killed 33.7% of its attacks, while the Raiders connected on just 18% of their attack opportunities. Freshman setter April London played well for the Saints, registering 36 of the team's 46 assists.
Siena returns to action in the Stony Brook Holiday Inn Classic this weekend on Long Island. The Saints take on the host Seawolves on Friday night at 7 p.m.
