Final Stats
Riverdale, N.Y.- The Siena women's basketball (6-8, 2-3) shooting slump continued this evening as they lost their fourth straight at the hands of Manhattan (5-8,3-2) 62-49.
In an offensive half of futility for both teams, Siena went into the locker room trailing 30-22. The first points of the game took just shy of six minutes to register as Manhattan's Caitlin Flood broke the scoreless drought at the 16:16 mark.
Junior Katelyn Dooley hit on a triple and was fouled on the play for her second four-point play of the season. The three brought the Green and Gold within four points of the lead at 21-17. Manhattan outscored Siena 9-5 from that play to the halftime buzzer to negate the building momentum.
The Saints hit 3-of-6 first half shots from downtown but struggled from inside the arc connecting on 5-of-18 shots. Siena committed 10 first half turnovers which led to seven Lady Jasper points. Manhattan also got 19 points of production from there bench compared to five from Siena's.
In a first half breakaway for Manhattan, Kymehsa Alston was going coast-to-coast for what she thought would be an uncontested layup. Redshirt freshmen Heather Stec made up a lot of ground and swatted the shot attempt from behind the play. Stec finished with a pair of blocks and four rebounds in 19 minutes.
The Saints never got closer than four points in the second half as Manhattan shot 48% from the game to preserve the lead. The Lady Jaspers were led by Lupe Godinez's 16 points on 4-of-5 shooting from the perimeter.
The Green and Gold struggled to find any offense as Katelyn Dooley was the lone Saint to score in double-figures finishing with 11 points. Siena did get eight or more points from Laura Menty, Whitney Cave, Lauren Surber and Melissa Manzer.
The Saints outrebounded Manhattan 36-32 including a 12-9 advantage on the offensive glass. Siena shot 34% for the game.
The Saints will return home for a January 14th date against Fairfield before repacking the travel bags for two more road games. The Green and Gold return to the road with a January 20 meeting with reigning MAAC regular season champion Marist Red Foxes. Siena then travels to Baltimore, Md., for a January 22 date against Loyola Greyhounds.
