Siena Swimming Falls to Niagara in Season Closer, 179-98

Jan. 21, 2006

Final Stats

It was a bittersweet day for the senior class of Siena's swim team, as they exited the pool in the Siena Swim Center for the very last time after losing to the Purple Eagles of Niagara on Senior Day, 179-98, Saturday afternoon in Loudonville. Between events, sophomore Megan Dobbins gave a fond and touching farewell to her fellow teammates, as she recollected on the times in which they shared together throughout their collegiate careers at Siena.

The Saints won four events on the day led by senior Dana Golino, who captured first place in the 100 backstroke, 200 backstroke, and the 100 butterfly.

Golino was also part of the Saints' first victory of the day in the 200 medley relay, as she and teammates, Kaitlin Krause, Shanna Allen, and Dobbins clocked a time of 1:54.85, besting the Purple Eagles' time of 1:58.44.

In the 100 backstroke, Golino led all swimmers, registering a time of 1:00.65, followed by Allen and sophomore Jacylyn Giunta with times of 1:05.54 and 1:06.26, respectively.

Niagara's Allison Carr set a pool record in the 100 backstroke, notching a time of 1:19.82, surpassing Army's Heidi Bordon's mark of 1:08.67, set on January 14, 2001.

Dobbins claimed Siena's other individual first place showing completing the 100 freestyle in 56:66.

With the conclusion of the regular season, the Saints now have just under a month to prepare for the MAAC Championships in Baltimore beginning on February 16.
