Final Stats
Loudonville, N.Y. - Women's soccer defeated Iona 3-0 at Siena Field this rainy afternoon. Seniors Megan Helf (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac), Erinn Flaherty (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) and Erin Morine (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga) registered goals for the Saints. Siena outshot the Gaels 28-13 in 90 minutes of action.
With less than two minutes left in the first half, junior Tara Ross (Ballston Lake, N.Y./Shenendehowa) collected the ball on the right side and dumped it in the box to the cutting Helf. Helf gathered herself and then sent a laser past goaltender Suzanne Baldissard to put the Saints on the scoreboard. Baldissard accumulated 11 saves on the day, seven in the second half.
In the 61st minute, forward Kristen Turner (Wappingers Falls, N.Y./John Jay) got past the Gaels defense but was pulled down from behind inside the box. The Saints were awarded a penalty kick. Flaherty took the kick and placed it in the back right corner registering her third goal of the season.
At the 87:48 mark, Helf fired a shot from the top of the box which ricocheted off the left post. Morine collected the rebound and placed it in the right corner for her first goal of the season.
The Saints defense was anchored by goaltender Patti Carroll (Middle Grove, N.Y./Galway) who recorded five saves on the day. Carroll improves to 3-3-1 in net on the year.
Siena moves to 4-4-2 overall and 1-0-1 in the conference. They travel to Riverdale, N.Y. to face Manhattan on Friday at 3:00 p.m. The Gaels drop to 3-7-3 on the year and return to action at home on Friday versus Saint Peter's
