Loudonville, N.Y. - Women's soccer dropped to Rider 1-0 this afternoon on Siena Field. In the 8th minute, Rider freshman Alison Brody lofted the game winner over goaltender Carey Winkler (Sand Lake, N.Y./Averill Park). The Saints outshot Rider 17-8 on the day. Siena drops to 3-2-1 in conference play this season.
The Broncs got on the board early when Brody posted her second goal of the year at 7:36. Brody took a pass on the left side from fellow freshman Tara Morris, chipping it over the head of Winkler. Winkler tallied six saves in her fourth start this season.
The Saints had opportunities to even the game in the second half. In the 62nd minute, forward Kristen Turner (Wappingers Falls, N.Y./John Jay) settled a feed from senior Erinn Flaherty (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) inside the box. Turner juked a Broncs defender and fired a shot just wide right of the goal. Fifteen minutes later, Flaherty played a corner kick sent by midfielder Erin Morine (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga). She sent a header towards the open right side of the net, only to be blocked by a hustling Broncs backer.
Today, the Saints celebrated Senior Day in honor of the eight graduating seniors. The senior class includes: Sarah Hopkins (Ballston Lake, N.Y./Shenendehowa), Megan Helf (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac), Brandie Petrie (Gansevoort, N.Y./Saratoga), Lauren Stys (Hooksett, N.H./Manchester Central), Morine, Winkler, Flaherty and Turner. This class has proved to be the winninest in program history. Over the past four years, they hold a 35-29-5 overall record. They stand 21-8-4 in MAAC play.
The Saints fall to 6-6-2 on the season. They look to rebound Friday in Buffalo, N.Y. versus Canisius at 7 p.m.
