Kelly Hummel killed eight of 11 attacks, Christie Gustafson had 15 kills and April London dished out 43 assists as Siena rolled past Rider 3-0 (31-29, 30-13 and 30-25) in a MAAC match Saturday. Prior to the match, members of the 2005 MAAC Championship team received their NCAA rings and between games two and three, Kristin May - the newest member of the Siena Sports Hall of Fame - was recognized.
Siena rallied from an 18-12 deficit to win the first game 31-29. The Saints coasted to a 30-13 win in game two and held on for a 30-25 win in game three. Gustafson was the only member of either team to record double figure kills. Burgandy McCurty killed nine of her 13 attacks (.615), Hummel had eight kills in just 11 attacks (.636) and Kaui Robello added seven kills.
Megan Smith led Rider with nine kills. Alex Chappa killed four of her six attacks (.667) and Lacey Johnson posted a match-high 12 digs.
The Saints used a deep rotation, as 13 players saw game action. Reserve Andrea McBride made her presence felt by killing the match's final point. Siena held a 9-7 advantage in blocks and a 47-43 edge in digs. The game was decided by Siena's efficient offense, which posted a .369 attack percentage for the match, compared to a .0876 mark for the Broncs. The Saints also recorded 11 service aces.
The Saints return to action at 2 p.m. Sunday in a home match with MAAC foe Loyola.
