Saints Drop Third Straight

Nov. 20, 2006

Final Stats

Loudonville, N.Y. Siena women's basketball (0-3) was served their third straight loss of the season by Long Island University falling 78-46 at the Alumni Recreation Center. Freshman Valerie Nainima led all scorers with 30 points for the Blackbirds. Sarah Fullmer (Swansea, Mass./Joseph Case H.S.) posted a career high 15 points and six rebounds on the evening.

The Blackbirds took a two point advantage when Nainima knocked down a 3-pointer at the 18:00 minute mark and never looked back from this point on. The Saints recorded 14 of their 20 turnovers in the first half. Marquita Thompson and Nainima combined for 33 first half points as they cruised to a 28 point cushion to enter the intermission.

The Saints made a short spurt in the second half when they went on a 6-0 run cutting the lead to 23 after a Fullmer layup at 10:26. That would be the closest the Saints would come as the Blackbirds sailed to their first win over Siena since the 1983-84 season. This snaps a nine game winning streak the Saints held over Long Island. The Blackbirds shot 55.3% from the field on the night. The Saints shot a perfect 5-5 from the free-throw line. Heather Stec (Cazenovia, N.Y./Cazenovia) registered a career high eight points.

The Saints fall to 0-3 on the season and look to rebound on Friday when they take on Western Illinois at 8 p.m. in the AmeriSuites Midtown Thanksgiving Tournament hosted by the University of New Mexico. Long Island University improves to 1-3 on the season.
