Final Stats
Albuquerque, N.M. - The Saints fell 78-39 to New Mexico in the 2006 AmeriSuites Midtown Thanksgiving Tournament championship game at University Arena this evening. Lobo guard Julie Briody led all scorers with 19 points. Laura Menty (Wilbraham, Mass./Minnechaug) was the high scorer for the Saints posting 18 points and adding four rebounds. Menty was named to the All-Tournament team after registering double figures in back-to-back tournament games.
Sarah Fullmer (Swansea, Mass./Joseph Case) put the Saints on the board first sinking jumper at the 19:28 mark. The Lobos responded with 30-8 run sparked by four consecutive Briody hoops. New Mexico shot a blazing 58% from the field, including 57% from the 3-point line in the first half. Dionne Marsh posted 11 first half points, and registered her 1,000th career point as a Lobo.
The Lobos cruised through the second half seeing as large as a 41 point advantage to take home the 2006 AmeriSuites Midtown Thanksgiving Tournament title. Briody was named tournament MVP and was joined by Marsh on the All-Tournament team. The last time the Saints were held to 40 points or less dates back to January 20, 2006 when Siena was defeated by Marist 61-39. This marks the second game this season Siena has been defeated by 30 points or more.
The Saints fall to 1-4 overall on the season and look to rebound Wednesday versus Drexel at 5:30 p.m. at the Pepsi Arena. With the win, New Mexico improves to 4-2 on the year.
