Final Stats
LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Senior outside hitter Christie Gustafson registered a match-high 14 kills to pace the Siena Saints to a 3-0 shutout over the Marist Red Foxes in a conference bill Thursday evening at the Alumni Recreation Center in Loudonville. With the victory, the Saints clinch a number two seed in the MAAC Tournament set to begin next Thursday in Orlando, Fla.
Junior hitter Nadiege Honore amassed 11 kills on 33 attack attempts to compliment Gustafson in the stat line, while freshman standout Burgundy McCurty had 10 kills. Sophomore Kathi Kobayashi had a team-high 13 digs, while freshman setter Kaui Robello had 12 to anchor the Saints' defense.
The Saints eased their way through game one, winning 30-20, while the second game was almost comparable to the first with Siena on the winning side of a 30-21 score. The Red Foxes made a valiant attempt to battle back, down by two games, but came up on the short end as the Saints secured the 3-0 victory, winning the third and final game by a count of 30-26.
The Saints (18-12, 14-3) have little time to prepare for the Iona Gaels who will travel upstate to Loudonville for a 4 p.m. match on Sunday. Following the regular season finale, the Saints will travel to beautiful Orlando, Fla. for the 2006 MAAC Championships, which will be held at Disney's Wide World of Sports. The three-day event begins on November 16.
