Second Half Surge Sends Saints Past Peahens

Dec. 10, 2006

Final Stats

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Senior captain Katelyn Dooley (Troy, N.Y./Lansingburgh) guided the Saints to victory this afternoon posting a game high 22 points and 9 rebounds as Siena edged the Peahens 66-60 at the Alumni Recreation Center. Johnell Burts, a junior guard, came up just short of a triple-double registering 13 points, eight rebounds and eight assists in the losing effort. With the win, the Saints snap a five game losing streak.

"Today's victory was a good start for us, but we are not satisfied yet," said head coach Gina Castelli. "Overall, we showed what we are capable doing on the court."

The Saints took a 22-20 advantage into the half behind Shondaya Burrell's seven points. Siena's swarming defense allowed for only three Peahen's to score in the first half as Saint Peter's shot a mere 25% from the field in the first 20 minutes of action.

Siena went on a scoring surge in the second half shooting 70% (14-20) from the field and 60% (3-5) from beyond the arc. Dooley instructed the shooting show as she delivered 17 of her season high 22 points in the second half. On the game, Dooley shot an incredible 7-11 from the field, 3-4 from 3-point territory and 5-6 from the line.

Laura Menty (Wilbraham, Mass./Minnechaug) complimented Dooley's performance posting 13 points of her own. Shondaya Burrell (Albany, N.Y./Colonie) was the third Saint to register double-figures on the afternoon with 11 points.

The Saints improve to 2-8 overall and stand 1-1 in league play. Siena will take a 10 day break as they return to action on December 21 versus Bucknell in the Alumni Recreation Center. Tip time is slated for 7 p.m.

Saint Peter's drops to 5-3 on the season and 1-1 in the MAAC. The Peahens also take a mini break returning to action on December 20 when they take on Sacred Heart in Jersey City, N.J.
