Emily Kaier killed 12 of her 20 attacks to lead Syracuse past Siena 3-0 (32-30, 30-17, 30-25) in the first round of the Big Orange Classic at Manley Field House Friday night. Nadiege Honore led the Saints with 15 kills; freshman Kaui Robello added 10.
The two teams played a very even first game as the Saints rallied from a 27-24 deficit to tie the score at 30-30. Cheryl Cobbina, who tied Honore with a match-high 15 kills, scored a key kill to break the tiebreaker and help the Orange to a 32-30 win.
Setter April London played a solid match for the Saints, notching 30 assists, eight digs and three aces.
Syracuse rolled to 30-17 and 30-25 wins to close out the match.
The Saints will try to pick up their first win of the season Saturday. Siena squares off with Kentucky at 10 a.m. and New Hampshire at 2 p.m.
