WORCESTER, Mass.- Senior Kristen Turner (Wappinger Falls, N.Y./John Jay) scored two goals as the Siena women's soccer team defeated Holy Cross, 3-0 in non-conference action, on Friday night at Linda Johnson Smith Stadium. With the win, the Saints improve to 1-2-0 overall.
The Saints got on the board at the 9:38 mark when Madeline Rickard (Otisville, N.Y./John S. Burke) sent a long pass from midfield to Turner who then dove to the goal on a breakaway and knocked it by a charging junior goalie Jessica Pietrowicz (Worcester, Mass.), into left corner of the net.
In the second half, Turner scored her second goal of the game when she blasted a shot from outside the 18 into the left side of the net at the 49:54 mark. Siena then increased its lead to 3-0 when senior Erinn Flaherty received a pass from Susie Blaisdell (Exeter, N.H./Exeter) and put it into the right side of the goal at 53:12.
Pietrowicz made one save in the first 60:14, while freshman Jessica Stone stopped two shots in the final 29:46. Goaltender Patti Carroll earned the shutout for with two saves. The Saints had 14 shots, while the Crusaders had seven.
The Saints return to action Friday, September 8th at 7 PM when the take on cross-town rival Albany in Clifton Park, NY (Clifton Commons).
