MAAC Preseason Player of the Year Nadiege Honore found her groove as the match wore on and finished with 14 kills to lead Siena past stubborn Manhattan 3-0 (30-26, 30-22, 30-25) in Loudonville Sunday. It was the sixth straight win for Siena, which improved to 8-7 on the season and 4-0 in MAAC play.
The Saints held off a late Manhattan rally in the first game after leading 29-21 and held on for a 30-26 triumph. Siena jumped out to an 11-3 lead in the second game, and after allowing a moderate Manhattan rally, survived with a 30-22 win. In the third game, the Saints rallied from an early 9-5 deficit behind the serving of Kathi Kobayashi to win seven straight points and eventually emerge with the deciding 30-25 win.
Sophomore setter April London had four of Siena's seven service aces. London added 35 assists in the three games. Honore had 13 digs to lead all Siena players and round out her third double-double of the season. Elizabeth Akin had nine kills, Burgandy McCurty added six. Kelly Hummel killed four of her nine attacks, Janine Pesusich led the Saints in attack percentage, registering three kills in six attacks.
Manhattan was led by Kandice Watson who had 12 kills and eight digs. Watson kept the Lady Jaspers in the match with a flurry of successful attacks throughout the afternoon. Manhattan libero Ashley Watson had a match-high 17 digs.
Siena has won six straight matches and is now 5-0 at home this season. The team now hits the road for four matches beginning with Tuesday's match at Albany.
