Loudonville, N.Y. - Women's soccer battled Fairfield to a 1-1 tie in league action this afternoon at Siena Field. The Stags posted the first goal when Chrissie Sidie found the back of the net in the 49th minute. The Saints quickly retaliated when senior Kristen Turner (Wappingers Falls, N.Y./John Jay) tallied her sixth goal of the year at the 57:18 mark to bring it to a 1-1 tie.
After a scoreless first half, the Stags answered first when Sidie gathered the ball in the center of the box and placed a shot past goaltender Patti Carroll (Middle Grove, N.Y./Galway) in the 49th minute. Carroll tallied four saves in 110 minutes of action.
The Saints battled back minutes later when Turner accepted a pass from midfielder Erin Morine (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga), juked her defender and fired it cross goal finding the back of the net. Two minutes later senior Erinn Flaherty (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) placed a free kick in the top left corner on goal which was deflected by the fingertips of Stags goaltender Brett Maron. Maron accumulated six saves on the day.
Overtime proved to be an offensive struggle on both sides of the ball. Midfielder Chelsea Maguire (Ballston Lake, N.Y./Shenendehowa) sparked the Saints offense in the extra periods; however, they could not find the game winner in the 20 minute session.
Siena moves to 3-4-2 in their first conference match of the year and welcomes Iona to Loudonville on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
