Saints Lose Battle in Baltimore 60-53

Jan. 6, 2007

Final Stats

Baltimore, Md. - The Greyhounds used 14 second half points from senior guard Jill Glessner to roll past the Saints 60-53 at Reitz Arena this afternoon. Siena junior guard Melissa Manzer (Johnson City, N.Y./Johnson City) registered a career-high 15 points going 5-for-10 from the field in the losing effort. Heather Stec (Cazenovia, N.Y./Cazenovia) dominated the glass also recording a career-high 14 rebounds.

Loyola jumped out to an 8-0 advantage as it took the Saints just under nine minutes before they posted their first bucket of the game. Freshman center Sarah Fullmer (Swansea, Mass./Case H.S.) eventually got Siena on the board knocking down back-to-back jumpers to get the Saints rolling.

Poor shooting hindered both squads in the first half as they combined for 16-for-58 from the field. The Saints coughed up 15 turnovers in the first 20 minutes which set them back as Loyola entered the half with a 21-14 advantage. Siena got 10-of-14 first half points from the bench who entered the game averaging just under 8.0 ppg.

The pace picked up in the second half as Siena shot 52% going 14-27 from the field. Siena slowly chipped away at the halftime deficit finding themselves down just three after senior co-captain Katelyn Dooley (Troy, N.Y./Lansingburgh) buried back-to-back three pointers with 4:46 remaining. Dooley's second 3-pointer moved her into a fourth place tie with Lisa Serafino '94 on the program's all-time chart standing with 139 career treys.

That would be the closest the Saints would get as Loyola seemed to have an answer to every Siena basket down the stretch. The Greyhounds shot a phenomenal 88% from the free-throw line going 15-of-17 in the second half.

With the loss, the Saints fall to 2-11 overall and 1-2 in the MAAC. Siena looks to rebound on Monday when they travel to New Rochelle, N.Y. to face Iona. Tip time is slated for 7:30 p.m.
