Final Stats

Loudonville, N.Y. - Junior midfielder Chelsea Maguire posted the game winning goal in the 84th minute to lead the Siena (4-7-1, 1-2-0) women's soccer team past Iona (2-13-0, 0-4-0) this afternoon in New Rochelle, N.Y. The victory marked the Saints first league win of the 2007 campaign.

Both teams went scoreless through the first 45 minutes of action. Freshman goalkeeper Elizabeth Barna helped preserved the shutout effort notching two of her three saves in the first period.

Siena opened up the scoring in the 57th minute when senior forward Susie Blaisdell notched her third goal of the season giving the Saints a 1-0 advantage. Freshman teammate Tabitha Tice gathered a rebound in front of the cage, served it to Blaisdell who sent a shot into the back of the net.

Gaels forward Mariel Pepe evened the match at 1-1 at the 71:02 mark when she slipped one past Barna.

The Saints battled back soon after as senior co-captain Katie Goodwin set up the game winning goal. Goodwin pushed the ball up field to Deonna Gould. Gould continued to attack finding Maguire open on the right side who blasted a shot past the Gaels goalkeeper.

Siena held off Iona for the final minutes to take home a 2-1 victory.

The Saints will return to action on Friday afternoon for their match with conference rival Manhattan. Game time is set for 3 p.m. on Siena Field.
