Volleyball Drops Second Straight; Falls at Binghamton 3-0

Oct. 23, 2007

Final Stats

Senior middle Jacki Kane had nine kills and a match-high seven blocks and freshman setter Lindsey Mueller added a match-high 37 assists and 12 digs to lead Binghamton volleyball to a 3-0 (30-27, 30-26 and 30-19) match victory over Siena on Tuesday at the West Gym. It was the second straight loss for the Siena which had won 16 straight matches prior to Sunday's loss to UAlbany.

With the win, Binghamton (14-14, 5-2 AE) has now won eight of its last 10 matches and is back at the .500 mark for the first time since September 11.

Senior Nadiege Honore led the Saints with 10 kills. Burgandy McCurty added eight.

Mueller notched her fifth consecutive double-double and her 20th of the season. She also added three kills, five blocks, and two service aces on the evening.

Freshman hitter Michelle McDonough had a team-high 10 kills, senior outside Kathleen Schauer added nine of her own, and junior libero Jaclyn Strader had a match-high 15 digs in the winning effort.

Binghamton jumped out to a 13-6 lead in the opener, but Siena battled back bringing the deficit to within one point on four occasions before finally drawing even at 23-23. At 25-25, a Saints block and a BU attack error gave the visitors their first lead of the evening at 27-25 and forcing Binghamton to call timeout.

BU came out of the break needing to regroup and did so emphatically. Kane assisted on a block and then nailed a kill to even things up at 27-27. A Siena attack error gave BU the lead and Schauer, the Bearcats' senior captain, put away two consecutive kills to claim victory in game one by a 30-27 margin.

Game two was tied at 16-16 before a 9-1 Siena spurt gave the Saints a seemingly commanding 25-17 lead. The Bearcats, however, proved up to the challenge and answered by reeling off 10 straight points and closing out the game on a 13-1 run to take the 2-0 match lead.

BU jumped out to a 16-6 lead in game three and never looked back; sealing the match with a 30-19 game three win.
