Final Stats
Burgandy McCurty had 18 kills and posted a .516 attack percentage to help Siena stave off stubborn Niagara 3-1 (30-21, 30-12, 24-30, 30-24) in Loudonville Saturday. It was the 11th straight win for the streaking Saints who moved to 7-0 in MAAC play.
Unlike its last two matches, Siena started strong, winning the first game 30-21 and dominating the second 30-12. Head coach Garvey Pierre then shook up his rotation and Niagara took advantage to the tune of a 30-24 come-from-behind win to pull within a game. The Saints responded with a 30-24 win in the decisive fourth game to claim the match.
Freshman Aubrey Bobo returned to the front row and contributed 13 kills and 14 digs for the second double-double of her promising career. Senior Nadiege Honore also had 13 kills, but managed just a .179 attack percentage against Niagara's unbalanced block.
Setter April London had 45 assists and 11 digs, and had her most success when setting McCurty for the quick hitters.
Nicole Piette and Raelean Rush each had 12 kills for Niagara. Rush added 12 digs. Libero Sara Mancini led all players with 24 digs in a losing effort.
Kelly Hummel had six kills and three aces and the Saints won several points off her service early in the match.
The Saints held a 72-57 edge in digs, a 10-5 advantage in aces and a 59-45 spread in kills. Both teams had eight blocks.
Siena libero Kathi Kobayashi led the Siena defense with 18 digs and played only briefly in game three. Kau'i Robello came off the bench to add 15.
The Saints return to action against Canisius at 4 p.m. Sunday in the ARC.
