Kelly Hummel led four Saints with 15 kills or more, registering the first 20-kill match of her career as Siena held off Canisius 3-1 (30-18, 29-31, 30-22 and 30-14) in Loudonville on Sunday afternoon. Siena improved to 8-0 in the MAAC with the victory - its 12th consecutive triumph.
Hummel had 20 kills and notched a .447 attack percentage in the middle. Senior Nadiege Honore had 19 kills and Burgandy McCurty had 18 kills in just 30 attacks. Freshman Aubrey Bobo had 16 kills as she returned to the front row for the first time in three weeks.
The Saints coasted to a 30-18 win in game one, before suffering a 31-29 setback in the second game. Siena rallied from a 29-25 deficit in the second game behind the service of Jessica Hackett to tie the score, but lost the final two points of the game. In the third game, the Saints broke free from a 20-20 tie behind Kathi Kobayshi's service. Kobayashi served six straight winners pacing Siena to a 30-22 win and a 2-1 lead in the match. The Saints eliminated any doubt in the fourth game, jumping out to an 11-2 lead en route to a 30-14 triumph.
Kobayashi led four Saints in double figure digs with 19. Setter April London had 16 to go along with her match high 64 assists. Sophomore Kau'i Robello played the entire match and contributed 12 digs in the back row. Honore completed her fourth double-double of the season with 11 digs.
Setter Brittany Gerde led the Griffs with 10 kills. She had 15 assists and seven digs, sharing setting duties with teammate Lauren Lackovich. Libero Jess Stackhouse was the only Canisius player with double figure digs. She had 10.
The Saints have not lost since August 31, when they dropped their first match in the Hofstra Invitational to the host Pride.
Siena returns to action at Saint Peter's on Saturday. The Saints take on Manhattan Sunday in Riverdale.
