Marist Knocks Off the Saints 68-47

Loudonville, N.Y. - Rachele Fitz, a freshman forward, went off for 21 second half points to lead the Red Foxes past Siena (7-17, 6-8) 68-47 this afternoon in Loudonville. With the victory, Marist (21-4, 14-0) sweeps the regular-season series with the Saints and remains undefeated in league play. Laura Menty led the Saints in scoring for the fifth straight game posting a team-high 12 points.

The Red Foxes managed to take a 27-21 advantage into the half despite a poor shooting performance on both sides of the ball. The teams stood even shooting 31% from the field at intermission. The Saints held Fitz scoreless in the first half in limited action as a result of early foul trouble.

Siena saw their largest lead of the game with 10:08 remaining in the first half when Katelyn Dooley drained a 3-pointer to put the Saints on top 15-11. Marist responded with an 11-2 run. Sophomore guard Julianne Viani knocked down a runner in the lane to even the game at 17-17 with 7:07 on the clock. Then in their next possession down court, Shannon Minter knocked down a 3-pointer to put Marist back on top.

Fitz tallied her first bucket of the game 18 seconds into the second half which sparked a Marist 13-2 run. From the point on it was all Red Foxes as they ran off with a 21 point victory. Fitz shot an impressive 6-for-7 from the field and a perfect 9-for-9 from the free-throw line.

Dooley tallied 10 points, five rebounds and four assists on the afternoon. Liga Alpe-Luka kicked in seven points of her own in the losing effort. The Saints out rebounded Marist 34-31, but coughed up 21 turnovers in the contest.

With the loss, Marist snaps a two game Siena winning streak. The Saints look to rebound on Saturday afternoon when they take on Rider in Lawrenceville, N.J. Tip time is set for 2 p.m.
