Kelly Hummel had 20 kills and Burgandy McCurty added 18 as Siena rallied from an early deficit to post a comfortable 3-1 win over Marist Sunday in Loudonville. Kau'i Robello anchored a solid defensive effort that saw five players post double figure digs. Setter April London played a strong match as well, finishing with 11 kills, 47 assists and six digs.
Marist (8-13/3-5 MAAC) jumped in front by winning the first set 26-24. Joanna Foss had six of her 10 kills in the first set for the Red Foxes which out-hit the Saints .289 to .190. Siena answered with one of its most decisive set wins of the season, posting a 25-12 win in the second set. The third set proved to be the swing set of the match, as Siena fought off a match point and won a competitive 28-26 decision on Amanda Begin's kill.
Siena (8-9/6-2 MAAC) broke open a 10-7 lead in the fourth set to post a commanding 25-23 win to claim the match.
Siena played excellent defense for the better part of the match. Robello had 19 digs, Begin and Brianne Bobo each had 16. Aimee Gosse played libero, and finished with 15 digs.
Hummel was effective throughout on the outside. She had seven kills in the Saints big win in the second set which evened the match.
Foss was the only Marist player to finish with double digit kills. Libero Cassie Campbell had a match-high 21 digs.
Siena returns to action at UAlbany Wednesday night in a match that will be televised on Time Warner cable in the Capital Region.
