LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Freshman forward Ashleigh Barone scored three goals as Siena defeated Iona 4-0 Friday afternoon in Loudonville. Siena's offense got back on track scoring as many goals today as in their previous four matches.
Siena (10-1-2, 3-1) took a 1-0 lead in the 24th minute on Barone's first goal of the game. Junior Marissa Shibley played a through ball to Barone at the left side of the box where she shouldered off the defender and sent her shot far post past goalkeeper Suzanne Baldissard.
It was even for the remainder of the half as both teams threatened but couldn't break through.
In the second half, the Saints scored three goals in a 15-minute span to put the game away. The first was a header by Tabitha Tice. Maren Serafine took a free kick from 50 yards out that bounced in the box and Tice jumped and headed it over Balidssard inside the six-yard box. It was Serafine's first career-assist.
Barone scored her second goal on a through ball from Stephanie DiMari. She took it to the right and played it past the sprawling keeper. Barone completed the hat-trick - her second of the season - less than two minutes later on a breakaway from midfield. One-on-one with the keeper she shot it low and to the left post.
Freshman goalkeeper Laura Ettinger recorded her fourth shutout of the season making four saves. Baldissard made five saves.
Siena returns to action Sunday against Fairfield in Loudonville at 1 p.m.
