Final Stats

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Sophomore Cara Riley scored the lone goal, placing her penalty kick low and to the right side in the 39th minute as the Saints defeated Fairfield 1-0 Sunday afternoon in Loudonville. Fairfield was ranked third in the Northeast by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).

Siena (11-1-2, 4-1) and Fairfield (11-4-2, 4-2) played even for much of the first half, but the Saints outshot the Stags 10-3. Fairfield's best chance of the half came on a shot from Jasmin Corniel. She was one-on-one with the keeper at the top of the box but hit her shot high over the crossbar.

In the 39th minute Siena's Ashleigh Barone took the ball into Fairfield's penalty box and before she could let go of her shot was taken down by a defender, earning a penalty kick. Cara Riley took the PK for the Saints and placed it low and to the right side with goalkeeper Kelly Boudreau conceding the goal. It was Riley's first career PK attempt and her fifth goal of the season.

Fairfield controlled possession in the second half, and for the last 30 minutes dominated play. However, they could not break through the defense, either losing the ball around the box, shooting off-mark or being stopped by goalkeeper Laura Ettinger. Siena withstood the pressure from Fairfield and hung on for the win.

Ettinger recorded her fifth shutout of the season making two saves. Boudreau, a 4-time MAAC Player of the Week honoree, made three saves.

Siena returns to action Friday at Saint Peter's at 2 p.m.
