LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Junior Bobby DiFilippo scored two goals in the second half, leading the Saints to a 2-1 comeback win against Niagara Friday afternoon in Loudonville. Siena sits comfortably in second place in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference standings.
The first half featured even play throughout, as Siena (6-6-1, 4-1) held a slim lead in first half shots against Niagara 6-5.
Niagara (8-4-2, 2-2) took a 1-0 lead in the 53rd minute when a player was fouled in Siena's penalty box. Matthew Durand stepped up to the PK spot and drilled it to the left side as goalkeeper Steve Skonieczny guessed and dove to the right.
In the 67th minute, Siena's David Bonzerato nearly scored off a Sebastien Anzevui corner kick. The ball came in at the near post where Bonzerato slid and deflected it, but goalkeeper John Fiutowski was in position and made the save in a crowd.
The Saints tied the game at the 74:55 mark on DiFilippo's first goal of the game. Sophomore Steve Covino played a ball up the right side that DiFilippo ran onto at the corner of the box and blasted his volley inside the far post. DiFilippo scored the game winning goal 11 minutes later when he received a pass from Sebastien Anzevui at the top of the box, touched it to the right and sent his shot into the left side netting. DiFilippo leads the Saints with five goals and 11 points.
Skonieczny recorded three saves in the win. Fiutowski made four saves.
