Kau'i Robello, Burgandy McCurty and April London all posted double-doubles to pace Siena's 3-0 volleyball win over Niagara Saturday in Loudonville. The Saints evened their record at 11-11 and improved to 9-2 in MAAC play with a big match against Canisius in the horizon Sunday afternoon here in Loudonville.
Niagara took an early 2-0 lead in the first set, but the Saints won the next three points and never trailed again. The two teams exchanged points throughout most of the set, before Siena shook loose from a 14-14 tie to gain some breathing room. Kelly Hummel's kill finished the set, which Siena won 25-22.
The Saints posted their most dominant performance in the second set, scoring 8 straight points behind the service of April London to pull away for a 25-13 win. Siena again rallied from an early deficit to complete the sweep with a 25-19 win in the third set.
McCurty finished with 12 kills and 10 digs, completing her 10th double-double of the season and sixth in the last seven matches. Robello had 10 kills and 10 digs, playing extremely effective in both the front and back row. Hummel ended with nine kills and Emily Kruglik had six.
Setter April London had 10 digs and 36 assists, and effectively controlled the match with sound decision making.
Kathy Bibler led Niagara with 12 kills. Hannah Hendrick had eight kills and five digs.
It was Siena's 26th win in its last 28 home MAAC matches. The only losses have come to Fairfield over that span. The Saints figure to receive a stiff challenge tomorrow when they look to avenge an early season loss to Canisius in a battle for second place in the league standings.
