TROY, N.Y. - Brittany Pavolko recorded three event wins and newcomers Molly Chamberlain and Lauren Garrigan each added two as the Siena swimming and diving team topped Holy Cross 170-130 this evening at Robison Poll on the campus of R.P.I. Despite moving what was to be its home opener to nearby Troy at the last minute due to pool conditions, the Saints (1-2) showed no ill effects in defeating the Crusaders (1-3) for a second straight year.
Siena started the meet strong, winning each of the first four events to build what would be an insurmountable 55-19 lead. Holy Cross rebounded to take first place times in three of the next four events to pull within 92-58, but could get no closer.
In all, Siena swimmers earned nine first place times to seven for Holy Cross. Pavolko posted her third straight three win meet to start the season. The sophomore captured pool pacing times in the 200 medley relay, 100 fly and 200 IM.
Newcomers Chamberlain and Garrigan continued their near seamless transitions to the team with Chamberlain taking first place times in the 100 and 200 free with Garrigan winning the 200 medley relay and 100 back. Additional Siena winners on the evening included Bethany Fried in the 1000 free, MaryAnn Gaffuri in the 50 free and the team of Lauren Maxwell and Caitlyn Biagioli joining Garrigan and Pavolko in claiming the 200 medley relay.
Holy Cross meanwhile was led by three competitors who each posted two wins. Maggie Gousman won both the 100 and 200 breast, while Maggie Beaudouin paced the pool in the 200 back and 500 free and diver Rachael Martinez posted a pair of 200+ scores in winning both the 1M and 3M dives.
The Saints return to action with a meet against Vermont at Siena Swim Center on Saturday, November 8th. Meet time is set for 1 p.m.
