LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Freshman Lindsay Tegas scored the only goal of the game in a scrum after a corner kick to defeat Niagara 1-0 Friday evening at Niagara University, N.Y. The Saints win their MAAC opener and remain undefeated.
The game had a lot of possession without many quality scoring chances. Niagara (7-3-1, 0-1) outshot Siena 8-4 in the first half, but freshman goalkeeper Laura Ettinger stood strong in net. Ettinger made both of her saves in the first half to preserve her third shutout of the season.
Siena (8-0-2, 1-0) broke the stalemate in the 59th minute on a goal by Lindsay Tegas. Senior Chelsea Maguire took a corner kick and served the ball into the box where it bounced around until Tegas came up with it and shot it past goalkeeper Ashleigh Bowers. Tegas is now tied for third on the team with three goals.
The Saints finish their Western New York road trip at Canisius Sunday afternoon at 12 p.m.
