Amanda Begin posted 12 kills and defending MAAC and ECAC Division I Player of the Week Burgandy McCurty added 11 as the Siena volleyball team won its sixth straight match, sweeping Rider 3-0 (25-20, 25-22, 25-16) this afternoon in Lawrenceville, N.J. With the sweep, the Saints (7-8, 5-1) have now won ten consecutive sets.
In what was a close match early on, Rider (8-8, 1-5) was poised to even the match at one, harboring a 22-20 lead late in the second set. But, the Saints rattled off five straight points to win the set led by a pair of kills by Kau'i Robello. The versatile Robello was solid throughout, posting seven kills to go along with 16 digs.
Begin added two of Siena's seven service aces, while playing near flawless offense at the net with an impressive. 360 attack percentage. The Saints out-hit Rider by a wide margin of .209 to .099.
April London added 30 assists and Kathi Kobayashi 17 digs as Siena ran its unbeaten streak against the Broncs to six straight matches.
Katelyn Thompson tallied nine kills and reigning MAAC Defensive Player of the Week Amy Jeary recorded a match high 23 digs as Rider lost for the fourth time in its last five matches.
The victory sets up a showdown with first place in the MAAC on the line Saturday when the Saints entertain archrival Fairfield at Alumni Recreation Center in a meeting of the last three MAAC Championship matches. First serve is set for 2 p.m. with broadcast coverage beginning at 1:45 p.m. on Siena All-Access.
