Saints Need All Five; Top Rider 3-2

Nov. 1, 2008

Final Stats

Senior Kelly Hummel posted a career-high 23 kills to lead Siena past stubborn Rider 3-2 in Loudonville Saturday. Setter April London had five kills, 45 assists and 13 digs.

Rider won the first set 25-22, but the Saints evened things with a 25-14 win in set two. The Broncs pulled away for a 25-18 win in the third set, but Siena won the final two 25-22 and 15-12.

The Saints played without junior star Burgandy McCurty until the fourth set. McCurty returned to the rotation to post six of her nine kills in the fourth set to help Siena even the match.

Rider played tough throughout and was very balanced on offense. Katelyn Thompson had 16 kills, Lacey Johnson had 15 and Alex Chapla added 13. The Broncs held a 60-59 edge in kills and a 17-11 advantage in blocks. Amy Jeary had a match-high 19 digs.

Siena relied on its traditionally stout defense which tallied 70 digs, 14 a piece by Kau'i Robello and Brianne Bobo.

Emily Kruglik had nine kills in 20 attacks for the Saints and McCurty finished with nine kills in 17 attacks without an error.

The Saints complete their six match homestand Sunday at 2 p.m. against Loyola.
