Final Stats
LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Siena women's soccer defeated Holy Cross 3-2 Wednesday evening in Worcester, Mass. Stephanie DiMari, Ashleigh Barone, and Maria DeMatteo each scored goals to help keep the Saints undefeated.
The Saints (6-0-1) took a 1-0 lead in the 21st minute when senior Stephanie DiMari stole the ball from a Holy Cross defender in the penalty box and shot it past goalkeeper Jessica Stone. Siena added to their lead just before halftime on a goal from Ashleigh Barone. Barone found the ball in a scramble at the near post and stuffed it in the goal for the two goal lead.
Sophomore Maria DeMatteo extended Siena's lead two minutes after halftime. Senior Chelsea Maguire played the ball to Samantha Butzke along the right side who sent a long ball towards the right side of the box where DeMatteo ran onto it and fired it just inside the far post.
Holy Cross (1-8) got on the scoreboard in the 88th minute on a goal from Shelby Stand. Katherine Donnelly played a ball up the middle to Stand who ran past Siena's defense and chipped a shot over goalkeeper Laura Ettinger. Stand scored again just two minutes later on a penalty kick after a Siena handball in the box. With less than 20 seconds on the clock after the goal, the Saints held on for the 3-2 win.
Ettinger earned the win making five saves. Stone made one save for the Crusaders.
The Saints host Long Island University Friday afternoon at 4 p.m.
