Competing for the first time in 41 days, the Siena swimming and diving team picked up right where it had left off, winning its third meet in a row in downing Niagara, 134-97 this afternoon in Western New York. Siena (5-4, 2-2) won 10 of 13 events, with four Saints recording multiple victories.

"This was a great way to start the semester," remarked head coach Greg Brown. "It was a great atmosphere today, the team swam really hard and I was very happy with the effort."

It marked the first time the Saints had swum since a dual meet win in Loudonville over Howard and NJIT on Dec. 6. The team's final scheduled meet before break at Sacred Heart on Dec. 20 had been cancelled due to inclement weather.

Bethany Fried and Brittany Pavolko each won two individual events apiece, with Fried capturing the 1000 free (10:58.77) and 500 free (5:22.63) and Pavolko pacing the pool in the 200 free (1:59.34) and 100 free (:54.90).

"I was really pleased with Bethany's swims today," added Brown. "Her effort in the 1000 really set the tone for the meet."

Additionally, Caitlyn Biagioli and Lauren Maxwell combined to win multiple events on the afternoon. Biagioli captured first place times in the 400 IM (4:51.37) and as part of the 200 medley relay squad (1:57.00). Maxwell earned victories as part of that same 200 MR team as well as an individual win in the 100 breaststroke (1:12.42).

Niagara was led by diver Ashley Jones who accounted for the only Purple Eagles' multiple event winner of the day, sweeping the 1 and 3M dives.

The Saints return to action tomorrow to conclude their Western New York swing at MAAC rival Canisius. Events are slated to get underway at 11 a.m.
