LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - The Siena women's swimming and diving team overcame a late deficit to rally and defeat C.W. Post 132-96 this afternoon in the regular season finale and Senior Day meet at Siena Swim Center. Prior to the meet, the Saints honored their six graduating seniors, Lauren Garrigan, Erin Keys, Jeanine McCann, Rachel McShane, Melissa Nocera and Lisa O'Connell in a pre-meet ceremony.
C.W. Post (4-6) won seven events to the Saints (7-5) six and harbored an 83-82 advantage with just four events remaining. But Siena swept the final four events to pull away and capture the victory.
The meet culminated the way it had begun, with a new pool record being set. The relay team of McShane, Molly Chamberlain, MaryAnn Gaffuri and Brittany Pavolko captured the 200 free relay with a pool record time of 1:40.40. Earlier in the day, the Pioneers relay team opened the meet with a pool pacing time of 4:06.38. C.W. Post's Mariel Andersson set a new Siena Swim Center record, finishing her leg of the relay with a time of :28.58 in the 50 backstroke portion.
Pavolko and Chamberlain added first place times to represent Siena's only two multiple event winners. Pavolko paced the pool in the 200 IM (2:14.55) while Chamberlain captured the 500 free in 5:20.05.
Other Siena winners on the afternoon included Lauren Maxwell in the 100 breast (1:10.36), Erica Quinn in 1M dives (167.50) and Keys in 3M dives (177).
C.W. Post's Brittany Roman-Green led all competitors with three combined victories, while teammates Riley Cassidy and Marta Kristic each added a pair.
The Saints conclude the regular season at 7-5 overall and 3-2 in the MAAC. Siena travels next to the MAAC Championships hosted by Loyola College in Baltimore, Md. The three-day championships begin on Feb. 12.
