LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Senior forward Christina Macera scored the eventual game winning goal in the 15th minute and Siena women's soccer rolled to a 3-0 win over Marist on Senior Day. With the win, Siena clinches the No. 2 seed in the MAAC Tournament which will be played at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Florida next week.
Macera and classmate Marissa Shibley were honored in a pre-game ceremony.
Siena (12-4, 6-3) took a 1-0 lead in the 15th minute when junior defender Samantha Butzke passed to Macera who was running through the penalty box. She shot it past goalkeeper Jamie Balzarini to the right side. Marist (6-9-2, 3-5-1) had a few chances with 10 minutes left in the first half. The ball bounced around and the Red Foxes couldn't connect until Jackie Frey took a shot that was blocked by a defender.
The Saints added to their lead less than a minute into the second half. Freshman Caitlin Cahalan passed up field to Ashleigh Barone. Barone battled the defender for the ball, took control and placed her shot inside the far post. Cahalan made it 3-0 in the 60th minute. Junior midfielder Tabitha Tice played a through ball to Cahalan and she shot it past the keeper to the right side.
With 20 minutes remaining, Jaclynn Sabia was in Siena's penalty box and about to take a shot on goal, but Butzke came across and knocked the ball away.
Laura Ettinger (9-4) made two saves in the shutout.
