LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. - Amy Tillotson scored the lone goal ('33) to give Marist a 1-0 MAAC Tournament quarterfinal win over Siena Friday afternoon at Disney's Wide World of Sports. Siena rolled past Marist 3-0 six days ago in Loudonville.
The seventh-seeded Red Foxes (8-9-2) went right at the second-seeded Saints (12-5) in the first half, sending through balls to forwards and attacking from the width. Siena battled in the second half and applied heavy pressure in the final minutes, but couldn't break through the Marist defense.
In the 33rd minute, Alexandra Lauterborn passed to a wide open Amy Tillotson in the Siena penalty box, she turned and placed her shot just past Laura Ettinger for the game winning goal.
Marist quieted a strong Siena offense that averaged two goals/game (2nd in the MAAC) and 15.4 shots/game. The Saints managed just six shots and put two on goal. Goalkeeper Jamie Balzarini made both saves to record the shutout.
Siena's best scoring chances came in the final 15 minutes of the game. With 12:45 remaining, junior midfielder Tabitha Tice played a low through ball that freshman Ashleigh Barone chased, but it had a little too much on it and Balzarini came sliding out to grab it. With 7 ½ minutes to play, junior Cara Riley lobbed a free kick into the box and Shannon Clancy volleyed it, but right into the keeper's hands.
Ettinger made one save in the loss although she came off her line to clear many chances away.
All five of Siena's losses this season came by 1-0 decisions. Siena finishes with its second most wins in a season.
The Saints are now 2-10-2 all-time in the MAAC Tournament and have been eliminated from Disney each time in the quarterfinals.
