Final Stats

Sophomore forward Ashleigh Barone scored two goals as the Siena women's soccer team defeated defending MAAC Champion Fairfield 2-1 Sunday afternoon in Fairfield, Conn. It was Barone's first multi-goal game of the season and provided a big win following Siena's first league loss on Friday. Siena was defeated by Fairfield in the 2008 MAAC Tournament semifinals in a penalty shootout.

Fairfield (6-6-1, 1-1-1) outshot Siena (9-2, 3-1) 8-1 in the first half but goalkeeper Laura Ettinger kept the game scoreless with three saves. Siena's offense started rolling immediately in the second half as Barone scored 47 seconds in. Junior midfielder Tabitha Tice passed the ball through the Fairfield back line and Barone dribbled in and beat goalkeeper Kelly Boudreau at the near post. The Saints outshot the Stags 10-7 in the second half.

Barone made it 2-0 in the 67th minute on a corner kick. Sophomore midfielder Lindsay Tegas sent the ball in and Barone flicked it just inside the post. Fairfield responded three minutes later on a penalty kick. After a Fairfield player was fouled inside the box, Adrienne Boyer placed her shot in the corner of the net and cut the lead in half.

But the Saints would hold on for the win, their ninth in the last 10 games.

Ettinger (6-2) made five saves in the win and Boudreau (6-6-1) made four in the loss.

Siena returns to action this Friday when it plays at Rider. Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
