Final Stats
Senior Burgandy McCurty had 15 kills and 20 digs and red-shirt sophomore Aubrey Bobo had 13 kills as Siena volleyball defeated Saint Peter's 3-1 (25-18, 25-10, 20-25, 25-14) Saturday afternoon in Jersey City, N.J. The Saints clinched the No. 3 seed in the upcoming MAAC Tournament and will face Niagara in the semifinals. Siena played strong defense with 87 digs as the Peahens struggled with a .034 attack percentage in the match. Siena is riding a five-game win streak, its longest this season.
Siena (14-12, 12-5 MAAC) went on a 10-3 run early in the first set and never trailed as they went on to win 25-18. Saint Peter's cut it to 21-17, but four straight points - kills from McCurty and Kau'i Robello, an error by Stephanie Phillips and an ace from Brianne Bobo - gave Siena the set.
The Saints dominated the second set, building an 11-0 lead on McCurty's serve. Aubrey Bobo and Amanda Sawlsville each had two kills and a block during that span. The Peahens cut it to 13-5 by winning eight of the next 10 points. But a service error gave Siena a side out and Aimee Gosse drilled two aces followed by two McCurty kills and the Saints cruised to a 25-10 victory in the set.
Saint Peter's (8-21, 5-12 MAAC) won a close third set 25-20. The Peahens jumped out to a 14-5 lead and Siena battled back within two points (18-16), but Saint Peter's won five of the next six points to win its first game against the Saints this season. Siena had won the first five (won 3-0 on November 1).
Bobo had five kills and two aces and the Peahens had nine attack errors to give Siena a 25-14 win in the fourth set and the match.
Robello had 42 assists and 12 digs in the match.
Siena plays its regular-season finale at Manhattan tomorrow afternoon. Game time is scheduled for 2 p.m.
